Getting up is never easy… Especially before 10am

We don’t have an alarm clock with us so when I woke at 8:10 and was a little relieved that I had. The two other guys in the room had been practising snoring I’m sure so that they where in peak performance for last night. Needless to say Sarah and I didn’t have the best sleep. But the breakfast was exceptional in the hostel and we felt ready to catch a train to Bern. Was about an hour by train, and the train was two story! We had seen them and really wanted to go on one, and they are good!

When we got to our destination we immediately noticed that we might have made a little mistake as Nothing was open, other that restaurants and believe me they are super expensive to go to. The Swiss have it all backwards when it comes to money. For example Clothing is really cheep and public transport you can buy a pass for the city at 7 Franks that will give you unlimited access to the city transport or even buy a t-shirt at a designer shop for 20 Franks yet a combo at McDonald’s will cost you 12 Franks (around NZ$13-14) at the cheapest, or a Donor kebab will set you back 7.50 Franks (NZ$8.50ish). Anyway there was nothing to do and the city was completely empty, so we started walking and stumbled on a few things before heeding back to the train station for food. After talking to the tourist information we decided that a movie might pass the time quickly, so we decided to go and find one. We finally found the cinema and luckily the ticket lady spoke perfect English and had lived in America for a few years so we had a bit of a chat and found out where all the locals hang out in the summer during the weekend. We had a feeling that the city was empty and we’re curious to why. We were told about pools just down from where we were and had time before the movie to go and have a look. It was absolutely amazing, and totally free. There were so many people there, the one thing that was kind of a bit weird though, was that I’m not sure if the changing rooms cost (not that we saw any), but everyone seemed just to get changed right wherever they were, trying to be as decent as possible for the most, but in some cases ‘oh, my, god…

So the movie was a movie (although it had intermission, Sarah and I both cracked up laughing when it happened!) and did fill in the time nicely although cost us our entire trip to Thailand, well not really but it definitely was on the expensive side. We had dinner in the park only to have a run in with a beggar which was quite an experience, and I never want to repeat, and after collecting our thoughts headed for the platform and eventually onto the overnight train to ROME!
