Abu Simbel Temples

Abu Sambel Temples are an unbelievible Architectual feat of the ancient Egyptions. They were commissioned by Ramesses II in the 13th century and instead of being built by stone they were built into the cliffs. Unfortunately when building the High Dam the two temples would have been submerged so they were moved to a new location nearly 200 metres away - quite a feat really considering that looking at them now, you would never know!! they disassembled the entire cliff and reassembled it in the new location, even taking the surrounding rocks and stone to keep the authentisity. The site itself is very nice although it was hard to find a shady spot to just admire the massive stucture. We flew to and from the temples, leaving the afternoon to transfer to our boat for the three day river cruise...
