Edfu Temple, Lock passing & Ship Party

We got up nice and early - 6:00ish, to catch a hose carriage ride to the Temple of Edfu. the Temple was dedicated to Horus, the falcon headed god, and was built in 237bc and was finished in 57bc. This is not only the best preserved ancient temple in Egypt, but the second largest after Karnak. It was believed that the temple was built on the site of the great battle between Horus and Seth. It is also believed that the current temple was the last in a long series of temples built in this location. It is said that the original structure housing a statue of Horus was a grass hut built in prehistoric times. The main building was uncovered in the 1860s. We got back to the boat for a late breakfast and from there it was a whole day of relaxing on board, passing through the main lock just after sunset and having a dressup party after dinner.
