Hired a car and drove the great coast road - was really nice for the first bit but majorly slow - average speed was a huge 50km hour on open road... lots of 'Sunday' drivers and they don't have passing lanes only places that you are meant to pull off and let people pass, needless to say no one does and consequently you end up in a long line of traffic doing stupidly slow speeds. We got about half way to our destination which was at the bottom tip of the inlet when we decided that we had probably turn inland otherwise we would be driving all night. It was a much quicker drive back and really nice thought the pass, ore rental just ate it up, and even driving in peak hour through Melbourne was fairly good. All in all id say that Melbourne is a nice city but oh my god are the flies a major pain in the ass!
